Case Studies: Transfer System & Finishing Process
NUTRO Corp., a Cleveland-Based integrator and machine builder, provides automated finishing systems for a variety of industries, including the automotive industry. NUTRO has integrated several machines that are involved in the finishing process of brake rotors. However, the product line has recently changed, making there former finishing process obsolete. NUTRO needed to develop a new, more efficient way to transfer the rotors from one finishing process to the next. Because of the new shape of the brake rotor, NUTRO decided it would be best to use the item system in a pick and place or transfer application.

How item helped NUTRO Corporation...

NUTRO and item have been working together for years as machine builder and integration partners. Engineers from both organizations met to discuss the details of the project; it was determined that item would be responsible for three phases of the above finishing process. These three phases include a 3-axis transfer system, a heat-curing frame, and a paint scraping application; all demonstrate at least one form of item’s precise linear motion capabilities. The 3-axis transfer system, the most involved of the three, utilizes item’s linear motion capabilities to its best. NUTRO required a system capable of transferring high quantities of unfinished brake rotors through a finishing process; item was the perfect fit for this application.

Combination of skills..

item has always preferred working with local integrators such as NUTRO. For projects such as this, item will provide all mechanical components of a machine including; construction profiles, 3 axis’ of linear motion, custom bearing carriages and plates; seen in the above photo. In addition, item will include energy chains from and outside supplier if the customer has such a request. Being a local, expert integrator, NUTRO provides the motors, drives, and other components necessary for a working pick and place/transfer unit. In essence, NUTRO is responsible for bringing the project to life.

Conclusion..

Working with local integrators such as NUTRO is not only beneficial for our two organizations but the community as a whole. There are many local and national industries that benefit from the teamwork of NUTRO and item; in particular, the automotive industry. This industry is a large and important part of America’s economy, it is good to know that item and the people we work with help increase efficiency, output, and growth in this industry.
