When the nation’s largest and most successful plating company approached item Michigan to help solve an environmental regulations issue, they knew they had come to the right place.

This large North American plating company excels in meeting and exceeding environmental regulations and requirements. A dust and particle control issue in one of their large polishing lines had become critical and item Michigan was contacted for a solution.



item engineers quickly realized that the current wire mesh guarding was adequate for preventing workplace injuries but did little or nothing to control dust.

Working closely with the customer’s in house engineering and safety department resulted in the design and build of a complex hard walled enclosure measuring approximately 24 feet wide by 26 feet long by 12 feet tall.

This structure was built using item’s 40x40 light, 80x40 light and 160x40 structural aluminum construction profiles for main ceiling and header supports. All electrical wiring, pneumatic lines and accessories were routed through and contained within the 160x160 modular conduit system.

A series of sliding doors allows for large parts to be easily moved within the robotic polishing cell while standard interlock switches prevent unauthorized entry and increase workplace safety.
